Multi Response Optimization of Friction Stir Spot Welding Process

چکیده

Friction stir spot welding (FSSW) is a solid state method mainly used to join non-ferrous metals and their alloys. When opposed other processes, FSSW has the benefits of being pollution-free having no filler material. In this study an attempt was made for multi response optimization friction welded EN AW 5005 aluminum alloy using Taguchi Grey relational analysis (GRA). Pin height (h, mm), tool rotation (S, rpm), time (t, s) were as input parameters while tensile shear strength (TSS, MPa) joint efficiency (JE, %) parameters. Therefore, Taguchi’s L8 orthogonal design matrix in order plan experiments. GRA then applied determine optimum condition which gives higher grey degree. Analysis Variance (ANOVA) also carried out show most significant parameter. Finally, confirmation test confirm results improvement grade throughout method. The best obtained with such as
 2.6 mm pin height, 1500 rpm 10 s 122.16 MPa TSS 111.05 JE. A 0.310 optimal parameter relation grade.

Friction Stir Welding Process Optimization: Experimental Methods

Introduction The Friction Stir Welding (FSW) process is an innovative technique to join metals in the plasticity field, thus not reaching the melting temperature and consequently the liquid state as it happen in traditional welding processes. This feature of the FSW proved an enhancement of the fatigue behaviour and strength of the joints, leading some companies to adopt the process for the man...

Optimization of Friction Stir Welding Tool Advance Speed via Monte-Carlo Simulation of the Friction Stir Welding Process

Recognition of the friction stir welding process is growing in the aeronautical and aero-space industries. To make the process more available to the structural fabrication industry (buildings and bridges), being able to model the process to determine the highest speed of advance possible that will not cause unwanted welding defects is desirable. A numerical solution to the transient two-dimensi...

Evaluation of Friction Stir Spot Welding Process by Laser Ultrasonic Method with Synthetic Aperture Focusing Technique

The application of laser ultrasonic technique is developed for evaluation of friction stir spot welding (FSSW) quality. The features of laser-generated ultrasonic waves in good welding and incomplete fusion area are simulated by finite element method (FEM). The non-contact laser ultrasonic inspection system (LUIS) was established to verify the numerical results. The interaction of laser ultraso...

Friction stir welding and processing

Friction stir welding (FSW) is a relatively new solid-state joining process. This joining technique is energy efficient, environment friendly, and versatile. In particular, it can be used to join high-strength aerospace aluminum alloys and other metallic alloys that are hard to weld by conventional fusion welding. FSW is considered to be the most significant development in metal joining in a de...

Review: friction stir welding tools

Friction stir welding (FSW) is a widely used solid state joining process for soft materials such as aluminium alloys because it avoids many of the common problems of fusion welding. Commercial feasibility of the FSW process for harder alloys such as steels and titanium alloys awaits the development of cost effective and durable tools which lead to structurally sound welds consistently. Material...
